Dill Pickles Anyone?

My whole life I have seen my grandparents, mom etc. plant dill in the garden for canning dill pickles in the summer. While visiting Bisbee, Arizona last week, I noticed this unusual weed growing everywhere in the town. I told my sister to STOP the car. I think that is dill just growing everywhere in Bisbee! Sure 'nough, it was! It was all along the roadsides, in the ditches and everywhere you looked. It was truly Dill WEED! I had heard it called that but little did I know that it's just a WEED! You learn something every day don't 'cha?

Hi Tricia! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I love dill pickles, but we've never grown our own dill. We tried making our own pickles last year and they came out way too salty!

I love the scent of dill growing in the garden - it's just such a summery smell. I also understand your interest in the old farmhouse and since I'm the same age as you I'm afraid I have to advise NO. It's a scary thing right now with prices the way they are - I guess the thing to do would be to look at it and decide what would have to be done and what you could live without if you ran out of money. That might make the decision for you! blessings, marlene

That may be dill or it may be wild fennel - we have tons of wild fennel growing here in Southern California. They look similar.

But - both are wonderful! Free herbs on the side of the road!!!
